The Victron MultiPlus 48V/20000VA/250A-100 230V Inverter Charger is a high-power, 48 V inverter/charger designed for professional off-grid, backup and ESS applications where reliability and flexibility are critical. Delivering up to 20 kW / 20 kVA continuous power at 230 V, it is ideal for larger residential systems, commercial sites, marine installations and specialty vehicles that need dependable AC power and fast battery charging from a single unit.

At its core, the MultiPlus combines a pure-sine inverter with a powerful 250 A battery charger and a 100 A transfer switch. PowerControl lets you set a maximum grid or generator current; the MultiPlus automatically manages battery charging so the input supply is never overloaded. PowerAssist goes a step further by adding battery power during demand peaks, then recharging the batteries once the load drops—perfect for sites with limited generator or grid capacity.

For energy-storage and solar applications, the unit works seamlessly in both off-grid and grid-parallel systems, and is compatible with DC-coupled solar charge controllers and AC-coupled grid-tie inverters. With an optional external AC current sensor or power meter, it can support self-consumption optimisation and help prevent unwanted grid export during backup or ESS operation.

Installers can separate critical and non-critical loads using the two AC outputs. The main output offers no-break transfer (<20 ms) so IT equipment and sensitive electronics continue to run during grid loss. The second output is only live when AC input is present, making it ideal for non-essential loads such as water heaters that shouldn’t drain the battery bank in backup mode.

The system is highly scalable: up to four 48/20000/250 units can be paralleled for 64 kW / 80 kVA, and three-phase systems can be built by combining three identical units, with further power scaling via parallel three-phase sets. This gives installers a simple path from a single-unit installation to a full multi-unit microgrid.

Commissioning and support are streamlined through VEConfigure and the VictronConnect app, with monitoring and control available via Cerbo GX/Ekrano GX, VE.Bus Smart Dongle, the VRM portal and mobile apps.
